Tambunan is located in the interior division of Sabah, about 1.5 hours or 75 kilometres from the capital city of Kota Kinabalu. The indigenous Dusun people make up the majority of the communities here. Known for its scenic beauty, Tambunan is surrounded by lush mountains, including the Crocker Range, which offers stunning mountainous landscapes. The fertile land and cooling weather of Tambunan make it suitable for agriculture and the horticulture industry.
